LYRICS: I see a red door and I want it painted black
No colors anymore I want them to turn black
I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes
I have to turn my head until my darkness goes
I see a line of cars and they’re all painted black
With flowers and my love both never to come back
I see people turn their heads and quickly look away
Like a new born baby it just happens every day
I look inside myself and see my heart is black
I see my red door I must have it painted black
Maybe then I’ll fade away and not have to face the facts
It’s not easy facing up, when your whole world is black
No more will my green sea go turn a deeper blue
I could not foresee this thing happening to you
If I look hard enough into the setting sun
My love will laugh with me before the morning comes
I see a red door and I want it painted black
No colors anymore I want them to turn black
I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes
I have to turn my head until my darkness goes
Hmm, hmm, hmm (humming continues)
I want to see it painted, painted black
Black as night, black as coal
I want to see the sun, blotted out from the sky
I want to see it painted, painted, painted, painted black
Hmm, hmm, hmm (humming continues)
ABOUT THE SONG: Paint it black is a song written by Keith Richards and Mick Jagger and performed by the great British rock back The Rolling Stones.
It was released to the public on May 7th 1966 as a single right around the time the conflict in Vietnam was really escalating. When the Rolling Stones dropped their album entitled Aftermath the song would be the opening tune.
Though the lyrics don’t necessarily pertain to Vietnam war subject matter the song was a huge hit at the time of the war and in our opinion has become one of the top 5 songs that are tied to the conflict.
Paint it Black can be heard in the end credits of Full Metal Jacket, documentaries about the war and even “Conflict: Vietnam” which is a video game.
