This timeline is meant to keep track of what was both happening on the battlefield, politically and at home in the USA during the Vietnam war.
1963
A meeting is organized between Colonel Lucien Conein from the American Embassy in Saigon and the coup plotter Trần Văn Đon. Even though Don wanted little involvement by the Americans in the planned coup, he went after Colonel Lucien after receiving an assurance from Ambassador Lodge stating that the colonel would be the right person to handle the coup plans.
1964
United States T-28 bombers piloted by Thai Pilots bomb the Northern Vietnam villages in Mugia Pass area. The North Vietnam government officials outraged by the incidents make public claims that United States servicemen were involved in the bombings. The allegations were later denied by United States officials that no Americans were involved.
1965
National Liberation Front commandos from North Vietnam launch a surprise attack on the allied forces. Quite a number of aircrafts are destroyed during the two separate attacks on the United States air bases. Another attack is launched by the Viet Cong at Chui Lai military base located on the coast of the South China Sea in Quang.
