This timeline is meant to keep track of what was both happening on the battlefield, politically and at home in the USA during the Vietnam war.


South Vietnam charges North Vietnam soldiers for aggression for the first time since the start of the Vietnam War. This was triggered by the capture of South Vietnam soldiers and civil guard posts located in the central highlands by the Viet Cong. Diem government officials claimed that North Vietnam soldiers mounted the attack after infiltrating South Vietnam through Laos. The lost posts are later retaken by the ARVN.


Over 1,200 troops of the Viet Cong ambush the 173rd Airborne brigade which was conducting Operation Hump. The 1st battalion of the Royal Australian Regiment is involved in the first encounter with the Viet Cong after uncovering a Viet Cong bunker system built in the Gang Toi hills. One Republic of Korea army division completes a landing in South Korea to participate in the ongoing war while the 1st infantry division moved inland to protect highway 19.
