This timeline is meant to keep track of what was both happening on the battlefield, politically and at home in the USA during the Vietnam war.


General Maxwell Taylor writes to President Kennedy while in the Phillippines encouraging the commitment of the United States military task force in Vietnam and advocates for the two parties to work together. He notes that the United States is a major and determining factor in combating the Viet Cong and resultant flooding from the monsoon rain.


Bien Hoa airport located near Saigon is attacked by the National Liberation Front. The attack involved shelling of the airport with mortars which were very effective as a total of 27 aircrafts were destroyed. A Skyraider also crashed will on take-off killing 4 Marines, 2 Vietnamese and leaving 19 other people with serious injuries.


Operation Rolling Thunder comes to a halt after being conducted for three and a half years. The operation had cost the United States more than 900 aircrafts, 818 pilots either missing or dead and hundreds more in captivity. About 120 Vietnamese People’s Air-force aircrafts destroyed in combat with the enemy and friendly fires. Nearly 182,000 Vietnam citizens killed and 20,000 Chinese support personnel injured.
