This timeline is meant to keep track of what was both happening on the battlefield, politically and at home in the USA during the Vietnam war.


Operation Farm Gate pilots are authorized by the United States Joint Chiefs of Staff to participate in combat missions. The program was initially undertaken for advisory support towards the South Vietnamese air force but later changed to combat operations involving both parties. Operation Farm Gate saw a gradual increase of the involvement of United States soldiers in the Vietnam War and not as President John Kennedy had originally ordered.


Operation Giant Slingshot commences in the Mekong Delta region. The operation involved assaults on the Viet Cong crossing the river or on the beach using the PBR boats. The communists were in the dark about the maneuverability and great firepower of the boat at the time, they engaged them in many instances without prior planning and suffered more casualties as compared to the United States Naval forces.


The confidential Paris peace negotiations resume after taking a 24 hours break. Meanwhile, the war between the communist forces and allied forces in South Vietnam was intensifying. The escalation was triggered by the need to achieve an advantage against the other side in the countryside which would be a plus in case a peace agreement would be signed in Paris. Tan Son Nhut airport was heavy hit by rocket fire in the escalation.
