This timeline is meant to keep track of what was both happening on the battlefield, politically and at home in the USA during the Vietnam war.

1972

ARVN numbering over fifteen hundred soldiers at Camp Carroll, some miles south of DMZ, surrendered to the NVA. Camp Carroll was vital to South Vietnam for its 175 mm artillery with range of 20 miles. The surrender of Camp Carroll handed NVA a stronghold on western Quang Tri

Now the city of Dong Ha was threatened, Nixon authorized U.S. Navy ships  to strike with warplanes and gunfire

1973

President Thieu of South Vietnam ended a two day trip to the US. President Nixon vowed to continue financial aid to South Vietnam, up to congressional approval. Thieu promised to never again request the USA to to send more troops into South Vietnam
