This timeline is meant to keep track of what was both happening on the battlefield, politically and at home in the USA during the Vietnam war.
1960
18 Vietnamese intellectuals, called the Caravelle Group, wrote to their President expressing concern about the the way the government was be directed. They protested against Agroville program. A program that focused on concentrating rural residencies into protected settlements.
1961
The report of a prolific study group led by Undersecretary of Defense Gilpatric stated “South Vietnam is nearing the decisive phase of its battle for survival” and is “critical but not hopeless.” It recommended that the United States show our friends and enemies that “the US intends to win this battle.”
1964
Operation Quyet Thang, an ARVN operation with US support was launched. The month long operation led to much damage in the Do Xa sanctuary which was a direct connection to the Viet Cong’s supply lines from Laos and the central highlands.
1972
US Joint Chiefs of Staff analyzed the South Vietnamese Army’s performance to that point in the Easter offensive and said it was encouraging
1974
Battle at Svay Rieng turned out to be the last major op of the War by the ARVN against PAVN
