This timeline is meant to keep track of what was both happening on the battlefield, politically and at home in the USA during the Vietnam war.

1960

South Vietnam military reports it killed 930 VietCong and captured more than 1,300 from mid-Jan to April, but also stated captured only around 150 weapons. At the same time the ARVN lost over one thousand arms which made Gen. Williams doubt “how a well trained soldier feels necessary to throw away his weapon.

1967

Search and destroy mission named Operation Union in the Que Son Valley is launched by the 1st Marine Reg to engage the PAVN 2nd Division. This particular operation finished May 16

April to May 1967 Hill Fights was a fierce fight between the PAVN and Marines on Hills 881 N, 881 S, and 861 N of Khe Sanh Combat Base part or the I Corps Tactical Zone.

1972

Kissinger visits Moscow to meet with Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev. They are to prepare for a summit meeting between Nixon and Brezhnev. President Nixon tells Kissinger that the highest of priorities is to receive Soviet cooperation and ironing out an agreement to end hostile conflict in South Vietnam.
