This timeline is meant to keep track of what was both happening on the battlefield, politically and at home in the USA during the Vietnam war.

1965

In North Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh put forth a new military service law. Prior enlisted were extended indefinitely, discharged soldiers were called back, and many more young people were drafted into military service. North Vietnam increased the size of it’s army by 290,000 and its defense militia from 1,400,000 to 2 million.

1969

American military in Vietnam reached it’s peak at just over 543,000

1970

Operation Texas Star took place in the A Shau Valley and mountains just to the east of the valley. Its goal was to at regain the initiative in that region. Operation Texas Star resulted in the Battle of Fire Support Base Ripcord
