This timeline is meant to keep track of what was both happening on the battlefield, politically and at home in the USA during the Vietnam war.

1963

After the coup that saw President Ngo Dinh Diem murdered, General Duong Van, leader of the revolutionary military committee of disputant generals in charge of the coup becomes president of South Vietnam. Ambassador Henry Cabot Lodge cables President Kennedy stating that they could neither halt, influence nor put the coup under control once it started. He was also certain that the coup grew on grounds laid out by the United States.

1970

South Vietnamese troops launch an offensive war into Southeast Cambodia covering about a 100-mile front. Their objective was to clean out all the border sanctuaries and preventing North Vietnamese troops from using Cambodia to get to South Vietnam. Little was achieved since few sanctuaries were destroyed and 41 enemy soldiers killed in action.
