This timeline is meant to keep track of what was both happening on the battlefield, politically and at home in the USA during the Vietnam war.

1964

Middle-level government officials from state departments and the ministry of defense in South Vietnam and the CIA present a detailed analysis to President Johnson’s policymakers. The analysis consisted of option A which was to reject any negotiations with North Vietnam, option B, increase military actions against the North till attacks on the South ceased while option C was to maintain the current policy but with an increase in military pressure on the North.

1967

The United States Senate foreign relations committee passes a proposal to counter commitment of the American armed forces and another one compelling president Johnson to ensure that the Vietnamese War conflict is brought for discussion at the United Nation Security Council. These steps were taken as a result of casualties suffered by the United States soldiers repelling the communists in South Vietnam.

1971

Cambodians plead with Saigon officials for help in fighting communist forces who were closing in on Phnom Pehn. A delegation of 8 Cambodians had flown into Saigon the previous week requesting for artillery and engineering support for Cambodian troops. The Cambodian had initially declined military and financial help from the United States.
