1963

A Vietnamese Mahayana Buddhist monk, killed himself in protest of the persecution by Diems govt of buddhists. The monk, named Hoa thuong Thich Quang Duc burned himself to death in an intersection in Saigon. An AP photographer captured the image which would make the front page of almost every major periodical worldwide.

1965

Gen Nguyen Van Thieu & Air Marshall Ky assumed control in South Vietnam, outing the govt previously ruled by Quat.
