This timeline is meant to keep track of what was both happening on the battlefield, politically and at home in the USA during the Vietnam war.

1965

The United States air force aircrafts demolish a thermal power plant at Uong Bi located 14 miles north of Haiphong. It was the first raid ever conducted by the United States Air Force on a prime Northern Vietnamese industrial target with devastating effects. 15 percent of the total electrical power supplied in North Vietnam was reportedly produced from the plant, most of Haiphong was left without electricity.

1969

President Richard Nixon reports during a press conference that he would approve the withdrawal of additional 50,000 United States troops by April 15, 1970, from South Vietnam. It would be the third reduction of the troops involved in the Vietnam War since the Midway conference in which President Nixon unveiled his Vietnamization program brings the total reduction to 115,000 troops.
