This timeline is meant to keep track of what was both happening on the battlefield, politically and at home in the USA during the Vietnam war.

1970

Lieutenant William Calley’s defense presents its case in Calley’s murder trial. Calley led a platoon under Charlier Company, 1st Battalion, 20th Infantry, 11th Infantry Brigade belonging to the 23rd Divison. He was charged with the intentional murder of irreproachable Vietnamese civilians camping in clusters of hamlets in Son Tinh District Quang Ngai province. He is reported to have ordered the killing of every living creature in the vicinity of the hamlet.

1972

Technical linguistic experts belonging to both allied forces and the communist Northern Vietnam begin working on the proposed Paris peace accord language. The peace accord was later signed after confidential negotiations between the United States National Security Advisor Henry Kissinger and North Vietnam government representatives. South Vietnamese President, unfortunately, declined the offer since it did not require the North Vietnamese forces to withdraw from South Vietnam.
