1966

An operation that lasted until October, Operation Prairie commenced in the north part of South Vietnam. It was in many ways a continuation of Operation Hastings. The objective was to rid the area of three battalions of the North Vietnamese mostly just south of the DMZ. Units involved were the 3rd Marine Division and 4th Marine Regiment. The sweeps were reported to leave close to 1,400 communist casualties.
