1967

McNamara admits that the United States’ recent shelling effort had little impact on the North’s capabilities. Meanwhile, Defense Secretary McNamara denies a demand from military leaders to bomb all MIG bases in N Vietnam.

1971

The 173rd Airborne (the Herd), are among the first American ground units to arrive and fight in Vietnam, stops battle operations and gets ready to head home to the states. All of this is Nixon’s troop withdrawal initiative. As the exit started, the communists began hostile attacks to throw a wrench into the upcoming elections in South Vietnam.
